A brief history of First Baptist Church of Oak Island

Our church was established in 1960 as a mission of Southport Baptist Church. Construction of our first building began in October of that year. The first services in the new building was held on January 1st, 1961, with 47 people in attendance. In 1979, the name of the church was changed to First Baptist Church of Oak Island.

Planning for the current sanctuary began in 1981, and the first worship service in the new facility was held on March 24, 1985.
Renovations to the learning/activity building were completed in 2005. This renovation greatly expanded the fellowship hall space and added classroom space and a youth lounge area above the fellowship hall.

The current members and leaders owe a huge debt of gratitude to all those who worked so diligently to establish this church. It is our prayer that this church may continue to be a place where the true Light of Oak Island shines for all to see, that some may come safely to the shores of eternal life.
