Ministers of Youth
Lauren McCoy

Lauren McCoy was born and raised in a Christian home in West Virginia and made it to Oak Island in the summer of 2014 with her husband, Ryan, and three boys Peyton, Parker, and Max. An alumnus Marshall in Huntington, WV, where she studied Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management, Lauren has left the kitchens and has rededicated and surrendered her life to the Lord.

In the prayer of Jabez- 1 Chronicles 4:10- Jabez asks the Lord to bless him, enlarge his territory, protect him, and keep him from evil. After Jabez’s prayer, God granted his request. This prayer serves to Lauren, as a simple, extraordinary refocus for us, as Christians. In reading about Jabez once, Lauren read that if you pray this prayer boldly- buckle your seatbelt and watch miracles happen. And happen they have.

Lauren’s life has been a testament to God’s magnificent grace and agape love. When Lauren stood by the sea and surrendered her days to using God’s eyes and Jesus’ love, she was reborn to a world where she is able to love the unlovable, serve the underserved, and reach to find the lost.

With tremendous love, unwavering support, and enthusiastic encouragement from her gracious Father above and her family (church and home) Lauren has gone from serving as a volunteer to Youth Minister at First Baptist Church of Oak Island. It is Lauren’s mission to share Jesus with the youth of Oak Island and the surrounding communities, and to nurture our future spiritual and secular leaders- making disciples who make disciples!

In her “spare” time, Lauren also serves as Vice President on the PTA board of Southport Elementary, cooks for Helping Hands Ministries, teaches choreography for ASMC and enjoys reading, cooking, photography, and adventures with her boys and the youth!

Childrens Ministry
Beth Key

Beth Poston Key joined church staff as Children’s Minister in October, 2014. She is wife to Pete and mother to four beautiful daughters- Katie Del, Abbie, Chloe, and Ellie. She was born in Gastonia, NC, but moved to Oak Island as quickly as the Lord allowed in July, 2014.

In 1999, Beth earned a Bachelor of Arts in Drama from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. While at UNC-G, she focused on Children’s Theatre, touring with the North Carolina Theatre for Young People.

Beth committed her life to the Lord at the age of 6 and has felt a calling to share the love of Jesus with others, especially children, from an early age. She volunteered in Children’s Ministries following graduation from UNC-G, directing Vacation Bible School, Children’s Ministry Programs, and Children’s dramas in her church.

In her leisure time, Beth bakes, volunteers in the PTA at Southport Elementary School, and loves to read, spend time with her family (especially on the beach), and run.
