Membership at First Baptist Church Oak Island

Membership Matters

We understand that committing to a local church is a significant life decision, and if the Lord is leading you to become a part of First Baptist Church Oak Island, we would like to assist you in that journey. God has selected the church to accomplish His mission, and church membership is an essential part of that.

Membership Requirements

  • Be a Follower of Jesus Christ

Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. In its broadest sense salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.

  • Be Baptized by Immersion

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his faith in the final resurrection of the dead. Being a church ordinance, it is prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and to the Lord’s Supper.

  • Complete the membership process

The membership process at First Baptist Church Oak Island includes:

Being a follower of Jesus, and in agreement with our beliefs

    Being baptized (if necessary)

    Meeting with Pastor Lyle

Being presented before the church for a vote of affirmation

Recently joined the church or thinking about taking membership with us here at FBCOI & wonder what that looks like or what it means to be a member here?

Join Pastor Lyle upstairs in the Youth Lounge area Sunday, April 23rd at 9:30 am as he covers some of the topics that are important to your growth as a member at First Baptist Oak Island. Examples of topics:

Mission, Vision, and Values
You will better understand why the church exists (mission), what it is trying to accomplish (vision), and the values or principles that guide its behaviors and decision-making process.

Statement of Faith
What our church believes,  core beliefs, and corresponding scripture that supports its faith.

What the Church Expects From Members
New and prospective members will better understand the concepts of spiritual development, giving, serving, and participation in church events and programs.

What Members Can Expect From The Church
How the church can support you and how you can access that support; what, when, and how the church shares information with its members, so you can watch for when information is shared.

Volunteer Opportunities
Without a large number of volunteers, most churches could not pull off their weekend services. You will learn the process of becoming a volunteer.

And much more! See Pastor Lyle for more details.
